Effective date: 10 July 2026. This policy explains what personal data readthegilt.com (“The Gilt”, “we”) collects, why, and your rights. The site is published by MDZ Strategic Communication, based in Brussels, Belgium, and we comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). EU-specific details are in our EU Privacy notice.
What we collect
- Newsletter data: when you subscribe, we collect your email address and (optionally) your first name, via our newsletter providers beehiiv and Klaviyo. Legal basis: your consent, which you may withdraw at any time via the unsubscribe link in every email.
- Comments: if you comment, we collect the name, email and content you submit, plus your IP address for spam prevention. Legal basis: legitimate interest in operating a moderated publication.
- Technical data: our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser, pages visited) for security. Legal basis: legitimate interest.
- Analytics: we may use Google Analytics to understand readership (aggregated, not to identify you). Where required, analytics cookies are only set after you consent.
What we do not do
We do not sell your personal data. We do not run third-party behavioural advertising networks. We collect the minimum needed to publish a magazine and send you a newsletter you asked for.
Who processes your data
We use carefully chosen processors: beehiiv and Klaviyo (email), Namecheap/EasyWP (hosting and mailbox), and Google (analytics, if enabled). Some are located in the United States; transfers rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and/or Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep data
Newsletter data: until you unsubscribe (plus a suppression record so we don’t email you again). Comments: while the article remains published. Server logs: per our host’s standard rotation.
Your rights
You can request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or a portable copy of your data, and object to processing, at any time — email hello@readthegilt.com. You may also lodge a complaint with your data protection authority; ours is the Belgian Data Protection Authority (APD/GBA).
